Before I get into the prompt questions, I wanted to make some remarks updating some comments from last week. During the course of this week I discovered many of the goals of my classmates are similar. They are, in large, all interested in bettering humanity and a few are even interested in this in very similar ways as I. What a pleasant surprise I thought to myself in reflection while reading all of their posts in the public forum. I replied to many and found myself thinking, is it really such a surprise? these are folks that are not only like minded in things like the LDS Church and Gospel of Christ, but similar in upbringing and general circumstance. It was a very encouraging moment for me, because the “they” i spoke of can perhaps stop a few of us, but all?
I suppose we will have to wait and see.

Why do you think Randy Pausch was able to achieve so many of his childhood dreams?

Randy struck me as an incredible person from incredible opportunity. I think one of the reasons he must have been able to accomplish so much, though he hardly spoke of it, was in his upbringing and family. it sounded like he had a great support group around him. A great network, if you will, and though this does not account for everything in ones life as far as success goes, indeed many that come from poverty rise and accomplish just as much if not more so, I perceive Randy had a drive as well. A personal vendetta with the reaper, is how I like to think of it. though coming from him it sounded like he was just spending his time in fun pursuits, much like many from my generation and the one after spend on video games or sports.

Do you feel that dreaming is important? Why or why not?

I do, I believe dreaming, even for those that don’t feel it important, makes up 90 percent of our experience in life. Even if those dreams are nightmares. There are so many stuck in totalitarian sates or cast systems or slavery. the numbers are mind boggling. Its hard to imagine so many, just in todays world alone, that are deprived of the ability to create their own dreams.

Discuss at least one of your childhood dreams. Explain why you believe you can or cannot achieve this dream.

Its a bit ironic, but I’ve always want to learn how to fly aircraft. I am morbidly afraid of doing so. heights don’t bother me so much, but the among of time up in the sky combined with the eventual need to come back down are what worries me. I know i can accomplish that dream, the question is will I? and I believe I will if only because if I don’t, I will always look up and wonder what if?

Until next week, dear reader.
